big brother 13 U.S
Big Brother 13 is the thirteenth season of the American reality television series, Big Brother. It began airing on July 7, 2011, on CBS and Showtime 2, and will conclude in September 2011 when the winner will be determined. The format of the program will remain largely unchanged from previous seasons: a group of contestants, referred to as HouseGuests, are enclosed in the Big Brother House under the surveillance of cameras and microphones. Each week, the HouseGuests vote to evict one of their own until two HouseGuests remain on finale night. The winner will be decided by the last seven evicted HouseGuests, collectively known as the Big Brother Jury. Julie Chen will host the season premiere, evictions, and the season finale. The HouseGuests are competing to win a $500,000 grand prize with a $50,000 prize offered to the runner up. This season is being promoted as "The Summer of Double Trouble".
Production
Big Brother 13 is produced by Endemol USA and Fly on the Wall Entertainment, with Allison Grodner and Rich Meehan returning as executive producers. This season of the program was announced on September 15, 2010, before the season finale of Big Brother 12 was transmitted, due to significant increases in the ratings over Big Brother 11.[1] Casting for season began in mid-April with applications and video tape submissions that did not have a set deadline.[2] Applicants chosen to be a finalist went to Los Angeles, California, from which applicants were narrowed down to a pool of 40 finalists.[3] Robyn Kass, casting director for Big Brother, revealed on her Twitter account on June 8, 2011 that the semi-finalist were contacted while no final decision on who would be selected for the program.[4] The selected group of HouseGuests were put into sequester on June 25, 2011 and interviewed by the media with their identities revealed on Yahoo TV on the morning of June 30, 2011. The 8 original cast members entered the house on July 2, 2011.[5] [edit]Broadcasts and platforms The main television coverage of Big Brother is screened in three weekly highlight programs that are transmitted on Sundays at 8 p.m. (ET/PT), Wednesdays at 8 p.m. (ET/PT), and Thursdays at 9 p.m (live ET/delayed PT) on CBS in the United States and Global Television Network in Canada.[6] The episodes summarize the events of the previous two to three days in the House. Along side these shows is a spin-off show, Big Brother: After Dark, which screens three hours live directly from the House and is shown on Showtime 2 and Global Reality Channel in the United States and Canada respectively.[7] Big Brother maintained an online platform with live subscription feeds from RealNetworks, new interactive options on the official website including "Moment of the Summer" which involves the public voting for their favorite moment of the summer. Another new feature is "Head of Household Photo Slam" which allows the public to vote for their favorite photo taken by the Head of Household, the last picture standing at the end of the season will be the winner. Returning interactive options include the fantasy league, "The Ultimate Fan" sweepstakes along with full episodes and video clips from the Internet feeds. The program will also maintain three Twitter accounts featuring updates from inside the House, production team and the Head of Household. For the first time users of the iPad, iPhone and Android platforms will be able to watch the live Internet feeds on smartphones and tablets. [8] Prior to the launch of the show, members of the media went into the house including superfan Richard, Sarah Underwood (G4), and comedian/radio star Kennedy. The hosts of CBS's, The Talk, also went into the house, as well, with host, Julie Chen, being evicted 2-0, with votes from Sharron Osbourne and Sara Gilbert. Leah Remini received no votes against Chen, and Holly Robinson Pete was the Head of Household so she did not vote.
Format
Further information: Big Brother (U.S.)#Format The format remains largely unchanged from previous seasons. HouseGuests are sequestered in the Big Brother House with no contact to or from the outside world. Each week, the HouseGuests take part in several compulsory challenges that determine who will win food, luxuries, and power in the House.[9] The winner of the weekly Head of Household competition is immune from nominations and must nominate two fellow HouseGuests for eviction. After a HouseGuest becomes Head of Household, he or she is ineligible to take part in the next Head of Household competition.[10][11] HouseGuests also take part in Have vs. Have-Not competitions in which they are divided into either the "Haves" or the "Have Nots" depending on their performance in the competitions. HouseGuests that become "Have Nots" for the week must eat "Big Brother slop" and a weekly food restriction (chosen by the viewing public), take cold showers, and sleep on uncomfortable beds in a room with constant fluorescent lighting. The winner of the Power of Veto competition wins the right to save one of the nominated HouseGuests from eviction. If the Veto winner exercises the power, the Head of Household must then nominate another HouseGuest for eviction.[11][12] On eviction night, all HouseGuests except for the Head of Household and the two nominees vote to evict one of the two nominees.[11] This compulsory vote is conducted in the privacy of the Diary Room by the host Julie Chen. In the event of a tie, the Head of Household must cast the deciding vote, announcing it in front of the other HouseGuests.[13] Unlike other versions of Big Brother, the HouseGuests may discuss the nomination and eviction process openly and freely.[11] The nominee with the greater number of votes will be evicted from the House on the live Thursday broadcast, exiting to an adjacent studio to be interviewed by Chen.[13] HouseGuests may voluntarily leave the House at any time and those who break the rules may be expelled from the house by Big Brother.[14][15] The final seven HouseGests evicted during the season will vote for the winner on the season finale. These "Jury Members" will be sequestered in a separate house and will not be allowed to watch the show except for competitions and ceremonies that include all of the remaining HouseGuests. The jury members will not be shown any Diary Room interviews or any footage that include strategy or details regarding nominations.[16] Some changes from previous seasons were implemented until only ten HouseGuests remained in the House. The first change was the HouseGuests pairing up into seven teams of two. The eight new HouseGuests were allowed to get to know one another and chose their partner as they saw fit. The six returning veteran HouseGuests were already paired up prior to entering the House. The second change was when a HouseGuest won the weekly Head of Household competition their respective partner also received immunity from eviction as well. The Head of Household nominated a pair for eviction rather than two individual HouseGuests. The third change was the introduction of the "Big Brother Golden Key" which is given to the remaining member of the nominated pair that survives an eviction vote or loses a partner due to an expulsion or voluntary exit. The Big Brother Golden Key guarantees this HouseGuest a spot in the top ten and immunity from all challenges and eviction. However, the recipients of the Golden Key were still required to vote to evict during the live eviction shows.

Returning HouseGuests
As part of the twist for this edition, a selection of former HouseGuests, called "Dynamic Duos" by the producers, re-entered the House for another chance to win the grand prize.[19] Prior to the premiere episode, CBS posted a poll of six pairs of former HouseGuests, asking the public to vote on which couple they think would re-enter the House. Will Kirby, winner of Big Brother 2 and a HouseGuest in Big Brother: All-Stars, who was listed with Mike "Boogie" Malin as a potential duo, released an online statement saying he retired from competitive reality television and would not be part of Big Brother 13. Natalie Martinez from Big Brother 11 announced on her Twitter account that her and Jessie would not be returning to the house. The other potential duo was Hayden and Enzo from the preceding season. Summary
On the first night, eight new house guests entered the House and were told to partner-up with another house guest of their choice. The pairs, referred to as duos, were: Keith & Porsche, Cassi & Shelly, Adam & Dominic, and Kalia & Lawon.[21] Once coupled, the new house guests were informed that several "Dynamic Duos" from previous seasons would enter shortly for another chance at the prize. Soon after, Brendon & Rachel from Big Brother 12, Jeff & Jordan from Big Brother 11, and "Evil" Dick & Daniele from Big Brother 8 entered the House.[22] Julie Chen then revealed a twist that would change some of the rules for the first few weeks of the game. Though house guests compete to win Head of Household individually, winning it now grants immunity for both the winner and his or her partner. In addition, instead of being allowed to nominate two house guests of his or her choice, the Head of Household may only nominate one duo with one of the two getting evicted at the end of the week.[21] Chen then introduced "The Big Brother Golden Key", which is given to a house guest who survives an eviction in the first four weeks of the program. The Golden Key gives the holder immunity from all evictions and exempts the player from all competitions until there are only ten house guests left in the House, though they are still required to vote on eviction night.[23] The house guests then competed in the first Head of Household competition, Going Bananas, which required the pairs to hold on to giant bananas suspended in mid-air while being splattered with chocolate and cream. Rachel won the competition and became the first Head of Household, earning immunity for both herself and her partner Brendon.[24] Rachel nominated Keith & Porsche for eviction. On Day 2, the House competed in their first Have Not competition, One Small Step For Cows, One Giant Leap For Milk Kind. Cassi, Kalia, Lawon, and Shelly became the Have Nots for the week. On Day 6, Dick voluntarily left the House due to an undisclosed "personal matter". Daniele, his daughter and partner inside the House, was assured that the reason he left had nothing to do with her immediate family.[25] Big Brother gave her a Golden Key because her partner decided to voluntary leave the House. During the Fast Than A Speeding Veto competition (similar to Big Brother 9's "Cupid is as Cupid Does" veto competition) both Keith and Porsche tried to throw the competition (each thinking the other didn't know) and were successful with Rachel and Brendon emerging victorious. The pair decided not to use the veto, and on Day 13, Keith was evicted by a vote of 6-4. On Day 13, Jordan won the Head of Household competition, The Big Brother Open. Each house guest made a single putt trying to land their ball in slots closest to, or in, the hole-in-one. Jordan won the competition by landing her ball in the third slot, while Dominic and Kalia scored in the six slot. On Day 14, Adam, Cassi, Dominic, and Shelly were named the Have Not's for the week after losing the March of the Ants competition. Jordan nominated Adam & Dominic for eviction. In an individual, candy-themed Veto competition "Big Brother Candystore", Dominic won the Power of Veto on Day 15 and, on Day 17 chose to take himself and Adam off the block. Cassi and Shelly were nominated in their place. Cassi was evicted on Day 20 by a 9-0 vote. Zingbot 3000 (from a challenge from last season) made a cameo appearance in the eviction show live audience with a sign ComicCon or Bust! On Day 20, Rachel won the Head of Household competition, Big Brother Online. The competing house guests answered a series of questions based on the results of a poll posted for viewers on the official Big Brother website, needing to answer correctly to stay in contention. The competition eventually came down to partners Rachel and Brendon, with Rachel answering correctly to earn her second Head of Household win of the season. On Day 21, the house guests competed in a luxury challenge. The houseguests were given clues including bars of soap, binoculars, a microphone, and finally the KITT car from the television show Knight Rider. Each houseguest received two opportunities to guess the idenity of the mystery celebrity. On her first guess Jordan won and was rewarded with an advanced screening of the first episode of upcoming CBS show "Same Name,". Three house guests could accompany her; she chose Jeff, Kalia and Shelly. As a bonus surprise, the four were joined by David Hasselhoff, one of the stars of "Same Name". Later that day, Rachel nominated Adam and Dominic for eviction. On Day 22, Brendon won the Power of Veto Hair Gone, by scoring the longest word of the competitors. His winning word, "understanding", was the same word he had previously used to win a similar veto challenge in Big Brother 12. Brendon decided not to use the power of veto, keeping the current nominees up for eviction. Dominic was evicted on Day 27 by a vote of 7-1. Dominic later admitted during his eviction interview that he threw the veto competition. On Day 27, Daniele won the Head of Household competition, Big Brother Slalom. The competing house guests stood against a wall, elevated on a pair of skis while holding on to ski poles. Throughout the competition, the mountain tilted back and forth every so often, the skis moved side to side continuously, and snow was blown onto the houseguests for small periods of time. As an added twist, the first 5 house guests to fall off picked one snowball which contained a mystery inside. Lawon, Brendon, and Jordan fell and picked a snowball that contained a Have-Not ticket. Jeff fell and picked a snowball with a $10,000 ticket. Adam fell and picked the snowball containing an elf suit ticket which means he will wear an elf costume for one week. As Head of Household, Daniele nominated Brendon and Rachel for eviction on Day 28, but on Day 29, Brendon won the Power of Veto for the third time by winning a competition called Time's Up, a combination of previous Season 13 events. On Day 31 he chose to use the veto on Rachel, leaving himself on the block. Daniele's replacement nominee was Jordan. On Day 34, Brendon was evicted by a vote of 5-2 with Rachel and Porsche voting for him to stay. Prior to the HoH competition Julie Chen announced to the viewing audience that the first four evicted HouseGuests (Keith, Cassi, Dominic, and now Brendon) have been sequestered seperately after their evictions. One of them will earn a chance to get back into the game via an "America's Vote". The evicted HouseGuest with the most votes will come back to compete for their second chance return into the game at a live competition against the fifth evicted Houseguest on Day 41. In the HoH competition, Checkmate, the HouseGuests faced off against each other in elimination rounds, answering a series of questions about the first three evicted HouseGuests (Keith, Cassi, and Dominic). After winning four rounds, Kalia was crowned the first newbie HoH.

Notes
^Note 1 : This HouseGuest is paired with the current week's Head of Household, and is immune from nomination for the week. ^Note 2 : This HouseGuest survived an eviction vote or lost their partner during the first three weeks of the game, and received a "Golden Key" as a reward, granting her — among other perks — automatic immunity until ten HouseGuests remain. ^Note 3 : The Power of Veto competition was played as individuals. Due to the fact that the duos were still in play, the PoV winner had a choice to remove the nominated duo from eviction. ^Note 4 : During the second Power of Veto competition, Rachel took the punishment of being on slop for the next two weeks, although she is not considered to be a Have Not. ^Note 5 : Due to a luxury competition that took place in week three, all the houseguests were immune from being a Have Not for the week. ^Note 6 : During the Head of Household competition, Brendon, Jordan, and Lawon picked snowballs that contained Have Not cards so all will be Have Nots for the week.
