dark knight rises information

The Dark Knight Rises is an upcoming American superhero film under the development of Christopher Nolan, David S. Goyer, and Jonathan Nolan.[1] Based on the DC Comics character Batman, the film will be the third and final installment in Nolan's Batman film series. The film is scheduled for release in the United States and Canada on July 20, 2012, by Warner Bros.

Cast

Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne / Batman,[4] a billionaire socialite dedicated to protecting Gotham City from the criminal underworld
Michael Caine as Alfred Pennyworth,[5] Bruce's trusted butler and adviser
Gary Oldman as James Gordon,[5] commissioner of the Gotham City Police Department
Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox[5]
Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle[6]
Tom Hardy as Bane.[6] Hardy has stated that he intends to portray the character as "more menacing" than in Joel Schumacher's Batman & Robin and gained 30 pounds (14 kg) for the role, increasing his weight to 198 pounds (90 kg).[7]
Marion Cotillard as Miranda Tate, "a Wayne Enterprises board member eager to help a still-grieving Bruce Wayne resume his father's philanthropic endeavors for Gotham"[8]
Joseph Gordon-Levitt as John Blake, "a Gotham City beat cop"[9]
Juno Temple as a "street-smart Gotham girl"[10]
Josh Pence and Liam Neeson as Ra's al Ghul, with the former playing a young version of the character in scenes to take place thirty years before the events of Batman Begins[11] and the latter reportedly reprising his Batman Begins role in a cameo appearance[12]
Nestor Carbonell as Mayor Anthony Garcia[13]
Matthew Modine as Nixon[14]
Brett Cullen as a judge[15]
Chris Ellis as a priest[15]
Alon Abutbul as "a mad scientist"[16]

Aaron Eckhart had expressed enthusiasm to return for a sequel if asked, although he later stated Nolan verified that his character, Harvey Dent, is dead.[17] Variety announced that actors Tom Conti and Joey King also had roles.[14] King confirmed her role on her Twitter.[18]
Production
Development

Warner Bros. president of production Jeff Robinov had hoped a third film would be released in 2011 or 2012.[19] Nolan wanted the story for the third installment to keep him emotionally invested. "On a more superficial level, I have to ask the question," he reasoned, "how many good third movies in a franchise can people name?"[20] He returned out of finding a necessary way to continue the story, but feared midway through filming he would find a sequel redundant.[21] By December 2008, Nolan completed a rough story outline, before he committed himself to Inception.[22] Later in December, Alan F. Horn confirmed that while discussions with Nolan about a third film were ongoing, no casting had been done, and Horn denied all such rumors.[23]

Before Nolan confirmed his involvement, Gary Oldman had said he was confident Nolan would return.[24] Nolan explained that as long as he is directing, Robin will not be appearing in the franchise because Christian Bale is still portraying a "young Batman," which meant "Robin's not for a few films."[25] In addition, Nolan considers the Penguin difficult to portray on film, explaining, "There are certain characters that are easier to mesh with the more real take on Batman we're doing. The Penguin would be tricky."[26]

Oldman, while taking questions from an audience at the 2009 San Diego Comic Con, was asked about a third film, to which he replied, "We start shooting next year. You didn't hear that from me." He subsequently clarified his comment, saying, "... well, I'm sure they want to do another one... it might [be] 2 or 3 years."[27] However, in 2009, Michael Caine had told MTV News that the film was not being worked on and he did not know any details.[28] On February 9, 2010, it was announced that Nolan has "cracked" the story of a sequel to The Dark Knight and has committed to return to that project.[29] In February 2010, work on the screenplay was commencing with David S. Goyer and Jonathan Nolan.[1]
Pre-production

When Goyer left to work on The Man of Steel, Jonathan was writing the script based on the story by his brother and Goyer.[5] On March 10, 2010, Nolan confirmed his involvement in the project and said it will be his last Batman movie and a conclusion to the story:

Without getting into specifics, the key thing that makes the third film a great possibility for us is that we want to finish our story. And in viewing it as the finishing of a story rather than infinitely blowing up the balloon and expanding the story... I'm very excited about the end of the film, the conclusion, and what we've done with the characters. My brother has come up with some pretty exciting stuff. Unlike the comics, these things don't go on forever in film and viewing it as a story with an end is useful. Viewing it as an ending, that sets you very much on the right track about the appropriate conclusion and the essence of what tale we're telling. And it hearkens back to that priority of trying to find the reality in these fantastic stories.[30]

Nolan confirmed his brother Jonathan is writing the script and that the villain of the film "won't be Mr. Freeze"[30] and "won't be the Riddler."[31]

In April 2010, Warner Bros. announced the film is scheduled to be released July 20, 2012.[3] Nolan said on June 30, 2010, that Jonathan Nolan's script was finished.[2] Nolan confirmed in September 2010 that he will be directing the film, and that he was then polishing his brother's screenplay,[32] which he expected to have finished in January 2011.[33] On October 27, 2010, Nolan confirmed that the title of the film will be The Dark Knight Rises.[31] He confirmed the Joker will not return in the third film, and dismissed rumors that he considered using unused footage of Heath Ledger from The Dark Knight.[34] The Dark Knight Rises will reunite Nolan with many of his past collaborators, such as production designer Nathan Crowley, editor Lee Smith, costume designer Lindy Hemming, special effects supervisors Paul Franklin and Chris Corbould, and composer Hans Zimmer.[35]
Filming

On an estimated budget of $250 million,[36] filming commenced on May 6, 2011, in Jodhpur, India.[37][38] Filming is scheduled to conclude in November,[33] spending four to six weeks in Pittsburgh[39] where it has been shooting under the working title "Magnus Rex".[40] Shooting locations within the city include Heinz Field, believed to be the site of an American football game[41] and the Mellon Institute and Software Engineering Institute at Carnegie Mellon University.[40] A letter sent out to residents and business owners detailing road closures revealed that the streets of the city would be featured "as the start of [the] film".[42] Production photos from filming in Pittsburgh showed a second Tumbler chassis after the first was destroyed in The Dark Knight.[43] Two accidents have occurred during the production of the film. While filming at Wollaton Hall a tractor-trailer crashed into the main entrance, though no one was injured.[44] A stuntman parachutist later crashed through the roof of a home in Cairngorm Gliding Club, Feshiebridge in Scotland, and became wedged there after a failed landing during a skydiving stunt, though he was not seriously injured.[45]

Nolan has chosen not to film in 3-D but, by focusing on improving image quality and scale using the IMAX format, hopes to push technological boundaries while nevertheless making the style of the film consistent with the previous two.[46] Nolan has had several meetings with IMAX Vice-President David Keighley to work on the logistics of projecting films in digital IMAX venues.[47] The Dark Knight Rises will feature more scenes shot in IMAX than The Dark Knight.[47] Cinematographer Wally Pfister had expressed interest in shooting the film entirely in IMAX,[48] but because of the considerable noise made by IMAX cameras, 70mm cameras may have to be used for shooting the film's dialogue scenes.[47]
Marketing

In May 2011, the film's official website was launched, introducing a viral marketing campaign similar to the one used to promote The Dark Knight; however, 42 Entertainment, the company behind the viral marketing campaign for The Dark Knight, will not be returning for The Dark Knight Rises.[49] When the website was opened, an encrypted audio file played the noise of what has been described as chanting. When the audio file was decrypted, it gave a link to the film's official Twitter account. For every person who commented on the Twitter account, a pixel was removed from the webpage, eventually revealing the first official image of Bane.[50]
