Even our furry friends deserve healthy treats!

Nothing beats the yummy goodness of homemade treats made for ones you love. With delicious baked goodies around, your pup will have a hard time keeping his paws out of the cookie jar! Here are our favorite drool-dropping recipes:

Vegetarian Dog Biscuits

Ingredients:

2 1/2 cups flour
3/4 cup powdered milk
1/2 cup vegetable oil
2 tablespoons brown sugar
3/4 cup vegetable broth
1/2 cup carrots
1 egg (optional)
Instructions:

Preheat oven to 300F. Mix all ingredients into a ball and roll out to about 1/4″ thick. Cut with bone-shaped cookie cutter, or strips, or a cutter shape of your own choice. Place on ungreased cookie sheet and bake 30 minutes at 300F.

Canine Cookies

Ingredients:

1 cup beef, chicken, or vegetable stock
1 cup bread or all-purpose flour
1 cup whole wheat, rye, or other dark flour
1 cup bulgar wheat
1/4 cup non-fat dry milk powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 teaspoon yeast
Instructions:

Use dough cycle. Roll dough to 1/4″ thickness. Cut with cookie cutters or knife. Place on baking sheets sprinkled with cornmeal. Cover with clean kitchen towels and let rise in warm place about 45 minutes. Bake at 325-degrees for 45 minutes. When all are baked, turn off oven and return all cookies to cooling oven overnight to harden. Store in airtight container.

Tip: If you use a 3.5″ bone shaped cutter (perfect for doggie treats!), you’ll get about 30-35 cookies from this recipe.

Give your puppy the gift of sweet, peanut-buttery love.

Ingredients:

3/4 cup flour
1egg
1 tablespoon honey
1 teaspoon peanut butter
1/4 cup vegetable shortening
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup rolled oats
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
Instructions:

Heat honey and peanut butter until runny (about 20 seconds in the microwave. Mix ingredients together and drop by 1/2 teaspoonful onto cookie sheet and bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 8 to 10 minutes. For a Pug, half a biscuit is usually plenty. So if you have a bigger or smaller dog, adjust the biscuit size (and the cooking time). This normally makes about 45 to 50 biscuits.
