The Skull
The term is usually understood to include of the
bones of the head. The head consists of the cranium and the face, and
it's therefore convenient to divide the bones in to cranial and facial
groups.
1. The cranial bone (Ossa cranii):
Includes the brain with its membranes and vessels and essential organs
of hearing. They concur with the facial bones in forming the
orbital and nasal cavities; in which the peripheral organs of sight and
smell are situated.
1- Occipital Bone
2- Parietal Bone
3- Inter parietal Bone
4- Temporal Bone
5- Frontal Bone
6- Lacrimal Bone
7- Ethmoidal Bone
8- Sphenoid Bone
2. The facial bones (Ossa faciei):
From the skeleton of the oral and nasal cavities, and also support the pharynx, and the larynx and the root of the tongue.
A- Single Bones:
1- Vomer Bone
2- Mandibular Bone
3- Hyoid Bone
B- Pair Bones:
1- Maxillae Bone
2- Incisive Bone
3- Palatine Bone
4- Pterygoid Bone
5- Nasal Bone
6- Lacrimal Bone
7- Zygomatic Bone
Mandibular:
The Mandibular (Mandibula) or the
lower Jaw bone, is the largest bone of the face. The two halves of which
it consist at brith unite during the second or third month, and it's
usually described as asingle bone. Its carries the lower tooth, and
articulates by its condyles with the squamous temporal on either side.
It consist of a body and two rami.
a- Body:
1- Incisive Part
2- Molar Part
b- Ramus
Hyoid Bone:
1- Basihyoid
2- Lingual Process
3- Thyroid Cornua
4- Small Cornua
5- Great Cornua
