The new Maserati GranTurismo, styled by Pininfarina, made its worldwide debut first as a 2008 model. The new coupe is powered by a 4.2-liter V8 engine and delivers a nimble weight distribution of 49 percent at the front and 51 percent at the rear.

The engine delivers 405 horsepower at 7,100 rpm and 339 pound-feet of torque at 4,750 rpm. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels via a six-speed automatic with paddle shifters for the manual control mode.

All of this power helps this luxury sports car get up to 60 miles per hour in 5.1 seconds, with a top speed of 177 mph.

Described as a "muscular and sporty car that can be enjoyed every day," the GranTurismo is fitted with an automatic gearbox and equipped with an adaptive control system which adjusts the gear-shifting mode to the driving style and the driving conditions. It is designed with "particular attention to comfort" and enough room for four people.

Maserati's tradition of the Gran Turismo concept dates back to 1947 when the Trident Company, following its clients' demand, unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show its first Gran Turismo, the A6, designed by the great Pininfarina. It was the first Maserati road car and was produced in 58 units.

The interior is truly built with luxury in mind, and comes in an unbelievable 8 million different possible color and trim configurations. The electronically controlled front seats strike a balance between comfort and support needed for spirited driving, and are covered in Poltrona Frau leather upholstery.

The Easy Entry system powers the front seats forward to allow ample space for rear passengers to climb on board and share in the roomy and refined atmosphere.

The cabin has been handcrafted and the care taken in its construction is clear. The finish is clean but exquisitely refined, from the subtle chrome rings that surround the dashboard and steering wheel switches to the Trident logo on the headrests and the Alcantara used on the back of the gearshift paddles.

The standard Bose Surround Sound audio system further improves on-board enjoyment for those looking to take a break from cell phone discussions and city noises. The placement of the eleven speakers was studied intensively in order to adapt them to the cabin's acoustics.

Open the trunk and equal care can be seen in the luggage space that can hold up to two regular-sized golf bags or the exclusive five-piece luggage set created especially for the Maserati GranTurismo by Salvatore Ferragamo.

Pricing starts at $118,000, making the GranTurismo a rival to the BMW M6, Aston Martin Vantage, Mercedes CL-Class, and even more expensive models like the Bentley Continental.

Following its Geneva Motor Show debut, Maserati has officially slapped a price tag on its harder-edged GranTurismo Convertible Sport. Appropriate for its range-topping position, the GranTurismo Convertible Sport will command a hefty $146,300.

Known as the GranCabrio Sport in markets outside of North America, this four-seat droptop is even sharper than the standard GranTurismo convertible thanks to a more powerful 4.7-liter V8 and a revised suspension.

Sitting under its long hood is a 4.7-liter V8 rated at 444 horsepower and 376 lb-ft. of torque. The Maserati V8 mates exclusively to a six-speed ZF-developed automatic transmission with integrated paddle shifters. The automaker’s Friction Reduction Programming helps increase power while resulting in a 6 percent decrease in fuel consumption. Official fuel economy figures have not been announced.

Maserati’s Skyhook active suspension system has been revised and retuned for the GranTurismo Convertible Sport and the droptop now gains grooved and drilled dual-cast brake discs.

To look the part, Maserati gives the car a black grille with a red-painted trident, black headlamps and a totally revised painted bodykit. The GranTurismo Convertible Sport also signals the debut of a new paint color – Rosso Trionfale, which the automaker says was inspired by its 1950 racing cars.

Dealers should begin receiving the Maserati GranTurismo Convertible Sport in August in North America.

Maserati to lean on Chrysler for three new models, tenfold sales increase

[ندعوك للتسجيل في المنتدى أو التعريف بنفسك لمعاينة هذه الصورة]

Chrysler’s most recent tie-up with Maserati wasn’t exactly a resounding success – resulting in the unloved Chrysler TC by Maserati – but Fiat and Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne is confident the new melding of the brands will result in a near-tenfold improvement in Maserati sales.

Maserati’s sales peaked just before the turn of the decade, but were hammered by the financial meltdown. Sales have yet to fully recover, with the Italian automaker tallying just 5,675 sales last year. However, Marchionne believes a Maserati tie-up which Chrysler could increase the automaker’s sales to 50,000 units per year.

That kind of expansion will require new models, with Maserati set to source three new vehicles from Chrysler. The new models will include a smaller Quattroporte sedan, a larger sedan to serve as a limousine and an already confirmed SUV model based on the Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Maserati’s volume Quattroporte sedan was met with much fanfare when it debuted in late 2003, but it’s ‘tweener size has hurt its overall sales. The Quattroporte is considered too big to be a driver’s car like the BMW 5-Series and too small to compete with vehicles like the Mercedes-Benz S-Class. As a result, the next-generation Quattroporte will be split into two model lines, both riding on the same general architecture that underpins the Chrysler 300.

Maserati’s “baby” Quattroporte started out life as a range-topping Alfa Romeo model, but was given to Maserati due to the Italian automaker’s global dealer network. The new Quattroporte model – codenamed M157 – will retain the same general size as the Chrysler 300, taking on vehicles like the Audi A6, BMW 5-Series and Mercedes E-Class. The new model will also be priced closer to its rivals, selling for between $78,000 and $100,000.

The smaller sedan will feature a front longitudinal engine and rear-wheel drive, but will employ a unique drivetrain. The car’s engine will be based on Chrysler’s Pentastar V6, but its displacement will be reduced from 3.6L to 3.0L. The mill won’t be lacking on power, however, thanks to the addition of direct-injection and two turbochargers, which should boost power to 400 horsepower. European customers will also have access to a diesel engine, but both engines will be backed by an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The larger Quattroporte sedan – internally known as M156 – will also ride on the 300’s architecture but will feature an overall length of 203.5 inches. That should give the sedan the needed interior volume to truly take on cars like the Audi A8 and Mercedes S-Class. The new model will also carry a price tag befitting of a flagship model, costing between $180,000 and $215,000.

Like the current Quattroporte , the big sedan will use a Ferrari-sourced 4.7L V8. Thanks to a few tweaks, the Italian V8 is expected to boast 475 horsepower, yet improve fuel economy by 25 percent over the current car. ZF’s eight-speed transmission will handle shifting duties, with all-wheel drive set to join the option list.

Finally, Maserati will add an SUV based on the Jeep Grand Cherokee. Although it will be built alongside the Jeep in Chrysler’s Jefferson Avenue plant, the SUV will have completely unique styling both inside and out, with only unseen components being shared.

In order to further separate the two model, the Maserati SUV will be fitted with the company’s 4.7L V8, producing 450 horsepower. The Grand Cherokee’s 3.0L diesel V6 will also be on offer for European customers, although its power will be boosted from 241 horsepower to an even 300. A concept version of the four-by-four is expected at this September’s Frankfurt Motor Show.

Maserati expects the new sedan to account for about 30,000-35,000 sales per year with the SUV adding another 10,000-15,000. Maserati’s remaining volume would be made up between the GranTurismo coupe and the GranCabrio convertible

Maserati banks on Chrysler to boost global sales
Luxury brand plans two sedans and SUV with technology from U.S. carmaker

[ندعوك للتسجيل في المنتدى أو التعريف بنفسك لمعاينة هذه الصورة]

Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne has bold plans for the automaker's Maserati luxury sports car unit: to boost annual sales almost tenfold to 50,000 units from 5,675 last year.

Three new models are key to this midterm goal and all are based on systems and components from Chrysler Group.

Maserati will introduce two new sedans to replace its Quattroporte flagship model using technology from Chrysler's large sedans such as the Chrysler 300 and the Dodge Avenger.

The third new Maserati will be the company's first SUV. Chrysler will build it alongside the Jeep Grand Cherokee in the Jefferson North plant in Detroit.

Maserati officials say the new models will not be rebadged Chryslers. They will have different bodies and interiors, as well as new front and rear suspensions and dedicated powertrains. The parts to be shared will be where the customer does not see it, the same as in the Bentley Continental, which is a rebodied Volkswagen Phaeton.

Quattroporte's size problem

Maserati's two new sedans will be produced at the Officine Automobilistiche Grugliasco (OAG), the new name Fiat gave to the former Carrozzeria Bertone factory it bought in 2009. Maserati will invest 550 million euros ($774 million) to refurbish the plant and launch the models.

The sedans will solve the current Quattroporte's size problem. The car is too big to be a compelling driver's car, but too small -- particularly in terms of rear legroom -- to serve as a good chauffeur's car.

The problem will be resolved by offering two cars: a "baby" Quattroporte, code-named M157 and a larger Quattroporte, code-named M156.

The "baby" Quattroporte will launch next year and is designed to be a driver's car and compete with rivals such as the Audi A6, the BMW 5 series and the Mercedes E class.

The project was initially conceived as a flagship model for the Alfa Romeo brand, but was switched to Maserati because this brand could win a higher pricing point and already has a global distribution network.

The new model keeps Maserati's traditional layout of a front longitudinal engine and rear-wheel drive.

The car will use a heavily revised, high performance version of the Chrysler V-6 Pentastar engine. With capacity reduced to 3.0-liter, the addition of Fiat's fuel-saving MultiAir air management system, twin turbocharging and direct injection, this variant will deliver over 400-hp and good fuel economy. The most powerful version of the 3.6-liter Pentastar currently delivers 305hp on the Dodge Challenger

Europe would also get a diesel variant of the baby Quattroporte with a beefed-up version of VM Motori's 3.0-liter V-6 engine currently offered on the Jeep Grand Cherokee for export.

Maserati says the new car will fit a price range between 55,000 euros to 70,000 euros in Europe ($78,000 to $99,000).

Mercedes S class rival

The large Quattroporte will be considerably bigger than the current model to compete better with chauffeur-driven, long-wheelbase versions of German flagship sedans such as the Audi A8, BMW 7 series and Mercedes Benz S class.

With overall length at about 5170mm, the new model would be 70mm longer than the current Quattroporte and 220mm longer than the "baby" Quattroporte.

Maserati's new flagship will use a revised version of the Ferrari-built 4.7-liter V-8, switching to direct injection and delivering about 475hp, coupled with ZF Group's eight-speed automatic transmission. This sporty, fuel-saving transmission is already available on large Audi and BMW models, while Chrysler will begin offering it on the 2012 model year on the 300 large sedan and its Dodge Charger sibling.

Maserati will add all-wheel-drive and stop-start technology, aiming to reduce fuel consumption by 25 percent from the current Quattroporte.

Maserati said the new Quattroporte should increase the brand's share in the global superluxury sedan segment to 8 percent from the current 3 percent. The company counts superluxury sedans as models priced between 125,000 euros and 150,000 euros in Europe.

The sedans will account for about 30,000 to 35,000 units of Maserati's 50,000 annual sales target and the SUV for about 10,000 to 15,000. The remaining 5,000 units would come from Maserati's current core products, the GranTurismo coupe and the GranCabrio convertible.

The new Maseratis were designed by the Maserati Styling Center in Turin, under the direction of Marco Tencone and the supervision if Fiat group design supremo Lorenzo Ramaciotti. For the past two decades, Maseratis have been styled either by Italdesign Giugiaro S.p.A. or Pininfarina S.p.A.

Frankfurt SUV debut

Maserati will debut a concept at the Frankfurt auto show in September that hints at its Jeep Grand Cherokee-based large SUV set to hit the market in 2013. The Maserati variant features specific body panels and a new interior.

The engine would be Maserati's 4.7-liter V-8 unit capable of about 450-hp, coupled with ZF's eight-speed automatic transmission.

Possibly only for Europe, the Maserati SUV could also get a diesel variant using VM Motori's 3.0-liter V-6, with power increased to over 300hp from 241-hp the engine currently delivers on the Grand Cherokee exported to Europe.

Maserati declined to give a price target for its large SUV, but in Europe it would cost considerably more than the Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.7-liter V-8 Overland that in Italy starts at 63,800 euros.
